The IBB Presidential Library Foundation is a nonpartisan centre that specializes in presidential scholarship, public policy, and political history and strives to apply the lessons of history to Nigeria’s most pressing contemporary governance challenges. The Foundation will enhance its national and international stature by serving as a national meeting place where engaged citizens, scholars, students, media representatives and government officials gather in a spirit of nonpartisan consensus to research, reflect and report on issues of national importance to the governance of the Federal republic of Nigeria, with special attention to the central role and history of the Nigerian presidency as a vital national institution.

The Foundation was formed by a group of IBB enthusiasts to preserve and promote the legacy of the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida. It also seeks to greatly increase Nigerians’ understanding of President Ibrahim Babangida and the values and ideals he promoted. The Foundation is strongly committed to rigorous scholarship and advanced civil discourse, and it is dedicated to bringing the benefits of its research, scholarship and creative activity, and educational excellence to global and local communities in ways that impact and positively change the world.

The Foundation’s library stands as a vibrant tribute to the life and times of General Ibrahim Babangida; portrays his life, leadership and legacy; conveys his enthusiasm for politics and public service, and illustrates the nature of the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Library also provides students and scholars the rare opportunity to conduct research using the collection of historical materials of rare significance which chronicle the life, politics and administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.

The Foundation, under the oversight of its Governing Council, is fully supported by funds it solicits and its endowment.

The vision of the Foundation is to play a role in serving and advancing Nigeria’s democracy and its political development. In an age of sound bites, short-term fixes, and heightened partisanship, the Foundation works to understand the powerful course of events from Nigeria’s independence to date, and provides historical insights for the policy making challenges the country faces today. It is hoped that these insights will put today’s policy debates in perspective, and point toward a framework for practical and lasting solutions at a time when sound nonpartisan thinking grounded in history is certainly needed. In providing insight into the institutions and issues that define our times, the Foundation is engaged in four distinct but related programs:
